Tawna Rubus AR1746/S08-016

DoB: 25/05/05  Height: 32.5” Colour:  Dark chestnut & white skewbald Sire: Brandon Fiery Jack  Dam: Tawna Rosebud

***Winner of 2nd place in the SPSBS National Awards Scheme 2021 Sire Ratings***…based on the successes of his progeny. Rubus is a very stylish little boy with eye-catching free movement. As a three year old he won 2 x Supreme Championships & 2 x Reserve Supremes, and was National In-Hand Show Awards Scheme - section winner. Later, whilst on lease to the Milday stud  (Edinburgh) for a couple of years, he won Miniature Champion at the National Stallion show (2015).

To date (2020) he has 59 progeny, many of which are champions including at the top level S.P.S-B.S. Breed Show, the National Stallion Show, the prestigious Royal Highland, County shows and Regional Shetland Groups. Three of his offspring won the overall Best Progeny Group at the 2021 Breed Show.

Rubus’s stock are noted for their exceptional paces, impressive manes and kind temperament. As a bonus, Rubus is a mushroom carrier (tested Mu/N) and has produced four confirmed mushroom foals.

Tawna Poldark BB1306/S17

DoB: 18/04/14    Height: 31.5”   Colour: Dark Mushroom   Sire: Tawna Rubus    Dam: Tawna Charisma

SOLD

It was a complete shock for us when Poldark was born - we had no idea that our ponies carried the rare mushroom gene. At birth, he was a peculiar cream colour (see last photo above) which gradually turned paler, then darkened when he cast his baby coat. He has been tested and confirmed as Mu/Mu. We have always strived for good type, quality, free movement and kind natures - regardless of colour, but as we have now bred three ‘mushrooms’ by Rubus, it has piqued our interest in this unusual colour!

Both Poldark’s parents are champions. We have only taken him to about three shows but with his neat little head, tiny ears, long stride and good conformation, this quality boy achieved a first, a second  and Reserve Mini Jun Champ. As both his parents are home-bred, Poldark is unfortunately very closely related to many of our mares, so he has found a lovely new home at the Winterburna stud in Wales where we hope he will be a valuable asset. He is a proper little gentleman - never aggressive with other ponies, and excellent manners to handle.

Breckenlea Scenario BB0579/S18

DoB: 11/05/14   Height: 32”   Colour: Liver chestnut & white skewbald   Sire: North-Wells Little Fella   Dam: Gott Surrey

This beautiful young stallion comes with excellent credentials. Bred in the Shetland Islands, he achieved a much coveted Gold Award in the Pony Breeders of Shetland Association’s Evaluation Scheme in 2018. Assessed and marked on eight criteria by three independent senior panel judges, he attained the highest marks of all stallions put forward that year, and only a standard black mare gained a higher percentage. Both his parents were also Gold Award winners in previous years.

Rio oozes quality, and has the kindest, gentle disposition with exemplary manners at home, although he is rather excitable when at a show. He carries some very desirable Seva and Berry bloodlines and has been brought into our stud as an out-cross for any of our mares. We really admire his athletic build and wonderful presence.

Highly successful as a youngster when shown in Shetland, he has since produced two very smart colts for the Breckenlea stud. His first foals for us have exceeded expectations, notably Red Ember (2021) taking the overall foal championship at the SWSPG autumn show and going on to many wins since. Red’s 2022 full sister, and 2023 full brother are also multi champions. Such exciting futures for these lovely young ponies.

Tawna Champagne Charlie BE0743/S20

DoB:  22/04/17    Height: 32.5”   Colour:   Palomino   Sire: Goodworth Bertie    Dam: Tawna Marina

SOLD We were extremely fortunate to lease-in the stunning buckskin stallion Goodworth Bertie (s: Kerswell Firecracker, d: Athelney Caramel) who carried some top bloodlines, and were thrilled to breed our first ever palomino. Charlie has inherited Bertie’s lovely head, ample bone, great length of rein,  and correct conformation, and is also the most charming stallion to handle, and show. He always seems to have the sweetest expression . . . but has the most deafening voice if you’re standing next to him!

We showed him very lightly for one season (3 shows) as a youngster, when he achieved 2 x first, 2 x second, Reserve Junior Champ and Res Mini Champ. Generally only shown about once a year since, but has won Mini Champ and Reserve Mini Champ as an adult.

His foals have all displayed great quality, wonderful fronts and beautiful small heads. We have retained several fillies - all of whom have achieved championships of one sort or another. Charlie has been genetically tested and is a mushroom carrier (Mu/N). His offspring have included palomino, mushroom, chestnut/flaxen, smokey black, piebald, buckskin (sadly lost at birth, so not recorded), dun, black, and bay skewbald. Three of his sons are already licensed, with two more going forward in the near future.

Tawna Clarius BB1308

DoB:  21/04/14    Height: 32.5”   Colour:   Dark bay/white skewbald   Sire: Kerswell Nutcracker   Dam: Tawna Clementine

ON LEASE FOR 2026 This gorgeous boy was a great favourite from Day One. He is mega-handsome, and has oodles of presence. He is well proportioned, with the short canons, strong hindquarters, straight action, and classic head that we look for physically in our ponies…and has the most excellent nature and good manners as well.

From a foal to adult-hood here at Tawna, he was only shown a handful of times in any one season, but achieved at least nine champion or reserve wins. On lease for three years to Matthew at the Chesterwood stud in Scotland, Clarius was shown 3 times in 2021 and won 3 x Miniature Championships, 2 x Supremes and 1 x Reserve Supreme….pretty impressive! His show successes have continued at the National Stallion Show, SPSBS Breed Show, and Great Yorkshire Show. We are hugely indebted to Matthew for producing Clarius to such a high level and giving him the chance to shine at such prestigious shows.

Clarius’s maternal G.S. is the amazing Brandon Fiery Jack, his M.G.G.S. was our highly regarded Fairy Fabric, and he is full brother to licensed stallion - Tawna Golden Shred (now in Austria).

Clarius has produced some excellent stock for the Chesterwood stud, and was then on lease for two seasons at the famous South Park stud in Sussex - home of the renown ‘Fairy’ ponies.

Tawna Flash Harry II BF0891/S21

DoB: 18/05/18   Height: 30.50”   Colour: Mushroom and white  Sire: Tawna Rubus    Dam: Tawna Marina

SOLD Having a limited knowledge of mushroom Shetlands gained from T. Poldark (see below) four years previously, we instantly recognised at birth that Harry was another of this colour. Since his arrival we have had four more mushroom foals, which prompted us to have the majority of our ponies genetically tested, and found that more than half carry the mushroom gene. One of Harry’s mushroom and white full sisters is at a stud in Austria, and another is in the North of England.

With his smart socks, white bottom and tail, Harry soon earned the name Flash Harry, but we had to add II as we have named a colt this in the past. This Harry is a diminutive little boy with showy paces and plenty of presence. He had loads of ‘look at me’ even when he was brand new.

Harry is a proper little gentleman - sweet natured, never aggressive with other ponies, and excellent manners to handle. On lease to the Loutin White Feather stud in Durham for a few years, his foals have included mushroom, palomino and skewbald. Two of his 2024 offspring have been really making their mark in the show ring in 2025 with a number of championships at County level, and Reserve Junior Champion at the Breed Show. Harry has covered 3 fillies here at Tawna in 2025, and was then regretfully sold as he is too closely related to many of our females, and does not offer such diversity of bloodlines for us as our other boys.

Milday Mr Bojangle AU0694/S15 SOLD

DoB: 25/05/08   Height 32.5” Colour: Chestnut/flaxen mane and tail  Sire: Plumtree Gin-Rummy  Dam: Milday Lucky Me

SOLD Introduced for a few years as an outcross, Bo’s P.G.G.S. was Ron of North-Wells, so continues our line breeding policy to that great stallion - though somewhat diluted now. Bo’s M.G.S. was Tawna Sherbert who produced many successful ponies.

Bo is a stocky stallion with good flat bone on strong limbs, well-formed hooves, dead straight paces, great shoulder and neck, , and amazing hair. He has the thickest mane and forelock, and we can’t help wondering how he can see anything, but under it all, he has an attractive broad forehead and a bold eye.

To date (2022) we have had ten foals by him here at Tawna - all of exceptional type - beautiful heads, excellent limbs, great substance, and plenty of hair. Several of the foals he sired at the Milday stud have already proved themselves with wins and some Junior Championships at the National Stallion show, the Royal Highland and the Central Scotland Group.

Bo was third prize stallion at the SPSBS Breed Show when in Scotland, and since we have owned him he has only been shown lightly (2019), winning Min Champ, Reserve Mini Champ, and a Shetland Supreme. His superb 2022 chestnut filly foal - Martini - out of T. Tia Maria, excelled at the SW Shetland Group’s summer show by winning junior mini champion, overall mini champion and supreme champion….all at the tender age of eleven weeks, and her success continued as a yearling in 2023.

Regretfully offered for sale due to an excess of stallions here, plus two more on lease and due to return.

Tawna Apollo BM0285/S25

DoB:  12/04/23    Height: 33”   Colour:   Chestnut/white skewbald   Sire: Breckenlea Scenario  Dam: Tawna Agnes

Dear Agnes is a super-star brood mare - every one of her babies has been superb …by three different stallions. Apollo shone out as special from the moment he was born; his stance, beautiful head, substance, and quality were apparent at just a few hours old, with the bonus of nice even markings.

We were eager to get him out in the show ring, and he has certainly proved himself. A few outings as a foal have been followed with numerous successes  in youngstock classes. At only two years of age he already has multiple championships under his belt, at County and regional level.

I love him to bits, but he can be quite challenging to show. Although good as gold to handle at home, bath, stable, load, and wait in the collecting ring,…..as soon as he steps into the show ring, he cannot contain his excitement. Understandable to a degree as this year (2025), he is bursting with hormones, and usually competing in a class full of fillies. Thankfully the judges appreciate that fact, and generally he does put in a decent display….at some stage. Actually I like a colt to know he’s a colt….but it doesn’t make for an easy life as his handler!

As Apollo has always been mature for his age, we felt he was ready for licensing, and he passed his vetting at about 27 months old. He will probably run with a couple of mares or fillies in 2026, and hopefully complete his youngstock classes as a three year old. It’ll be interesting to see if working, and covering some girls will make him more settled…or more spirited in the show ring - time will tell.
